I don't understand
英語を話せますか？
Can you speak English? (I'm about to give up on this one as the answer is almost always no)
ゆっくり話してください
Please speak slowly
簡単な言葉で説明してください
Please explain with simpler words
if all else fails, just smile, nod, and back away slowly.
